Locro

Scheduling for Cambridge exam centres: every session gets qualified staff and a venue, and everyone confirms from their phone.

The problem

Exam centres have to staff every session with qualified examiners and invigilators, at the right venue, often at short notice. Most still do it with spreadsheets, phone calls and group chats. Locro started with an examiner who knows that problem from the inside. The web app is now in beta with a Cambridge exam centre in Italy.

What it does

  • Exam events are scheduled and staff are assigned according to their qualifications.
  • Staff confirm or decline by SMS, by email (signed one-click links) or on Telegram.
  • Assignments still unconfirmed 25 hours before an event are released automatically, leaving time to find someone else.
  • Staff have their own portal with their sessions; new staff can register themselves.
  • Venues come with directions through Google Maps.
  • Several centres share one installation, each with its own data, under a superadmin. The interface is in English and Italian.

How it's built

About 12,300 lines of Haxe, compiled to a Node.js (Express) server and four framework-free browser clients. MySQL; Twilio for SMS, nodemailer for email and the Telegram Bot API. Live and pre-live environments run side by side under PM2 and nginx. 226 commits between February and October 2026.

Beyond the code

I also built the landing site (Vite and Tailwind) with a calculator that shows a centre what its current way of working costs; the calculator is open source. And I work on the pricing and the sales conversations.
